These mallets are the "evolution" of the traditional ones with a cork core. The balsa wood (ochroma pyramidale) is superior in rigidity and lightness to the old-fashioned cork. The extremely low density of the head prevents "bang sound" on timpani. These mallets are softer gradually from the center to the outside, allowing the player to influence the rhythmic clarity and sound color. With soft and fuzzy attack, the sound quality remains constant throughout the entire dynamic range from pianissimo to fortissimo
